Thuvaram Parupu Sadam \ Thuvar Dhal Rice (My Mom's Recipe)

For this Rice you need

2 cups of  rice
1 cup Thuvar dal
1/2 tsp. of Turmeric powder
1 tsp. of Mustard and Urad dhal
1 tsp. of Fenugreek
10 small onions
2 Tomatoes
2 tsp. of Ginger - Garlic paste
A bunch of curry leaves
Coriander  for garnishing
A pinch of asafoetida
Lemon Size tamarind
Salt to taste
2 tsp. of oil
1 tsp/ of ghee (for more taste)

For Grinding we need

10 nos. of red chillies
1/2 cup of grated coconut
1/2 tsp of cumin seeds
5 nos. of small onions
1/2 tsp. of Aniseeds

Grind them with little water to make a smooth paste.

Soak rice and Thuvar dal (add fenugreek seeds to it) seperately with enough water for an hour.

In the cooker along with thuvar dal add 2 cups of water and turmeric powder. Leave it for 1 whistle.

Add rice with 3 cups of water and leave it for 2 whistles.

Later add the tamarind extract, salt, the grinded paste . Leave it for 4 whistles.

Heat ghee in a pan. Add chopped onions, tomatoes and ginger garlic paste .Saute them well.

Now heat oil in a pan. Add Mustard and urad dhal, curry leaves . Add all these to the rice.

Finally garnish  with coriander and serve it hot.

Serve this rice with Avial and enjoy...........:)
